Why Become a Commissioner

If you are looking to become more active in your city becoming a commissioner is a great way to get involved. The City has several commissions: Parks and Recreation Commission, Environmental Commission, Planning Commission and Housing Commission, Commissions meet at a variety of different times once per month or twice a month for the Planning Commission.

As a Commissioner you will apply your knowledge of the community and expertise in specific areas to help advise the city council and city staff on projects, programs, budgets, city code and more. The Planning Commission is unique in that it is governed by state law. Its major responsibility is drafting the comprehensive plan. How to Apply

  • Applications are accepted Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Last day to submit applications is Monday, May 3, 2021 at 4:30 p.m.
  • City Council will interview candidates on May 17, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers
  • The Council selects and appoints commission members at the City Council Regular Meeting on May 17 at 7 p.m. 

New commissioners must be interviewed. All current commissioners have the opportunity to interview with the Council. Interviews last approximately 15 minutes and are held in the Mayor’s Conference room at City Hall.
